MDC (Metal Designs & Concepts Limited) was established in 1988 and entered
the market as a manufacturer of Metal Tubular furniture, Signs & Light fittings.
As the Company grew it focused its core business on the office furniture
market. In 1995 the Company acquired the operations of the Universal
Metal Company, which was at the time a division of the Neal &
Massy Group. The merged operation became known as MDC-UM, which was
adopted as the trade name of the company.
The Company today is the largest manufacturer and distributor of
office furniture in the Caribbean with a 12,000 sq. metre facility
in Trincity, Trinidad which employs some 200 people. In addition
to the traditional products manufactured, MDC-UM operates in partnership
with the world’s second largest office furniture manufacturer,
H.N.I. Corporation headquartered in Iowa, USA and
we carry such prestigious brands as Allsteel, Gunlocke,
HON, Paoli and Smartspace.
Our
relationship allows us to add value and utilize local material in
the sale of HNI products which comply with ANSI-BIFMA standards.
New CNC technology is being introduced in the manufacturing process
to further deepen this affiliation.
